About BUCH WIEN
BUCH WIEN is Vienna's annual book fair and literature festival, held each November at Messe Wien and at venues across the city. Organised by Literatur- und Contentmarketing Ges.m.b.H., it combines a trade fair with a public festival, describing itself in terms of more books, more knowledge and more authentic voices.
At the fairground, publishers and booksellers take main and co-exhibitor stands, and a shared stand gives antiquarian booksellers a place at the fair. Visitors are mainly general readers, families and school groups, with publishers, booksellers and media also present, which makes BUCH WIEN both a selling opportunity and a meeting point for the Austrian book world.
The programme is large and varied. Literature readings, non-fiction talks and debates, live podcasts, a Young and New Adult zone, children's and youth literature, school programmes under the Extra-Klasse banner and English-language events all feature. In the evenings, events continue at venues around Vienna, which gives the fair a citywide presence beyond the exhibition halls.
For publishers, the fair is a chance to meet readers directly, sell books, present authors on stage and connect with booksellers and media. For other exhibitors with an interest in reading, education or culture, it offers access to an engaged public audience over several days. Exhibitors can order graphic walls and stand furniture through the organiser, which suits publishers who want a simple, book-focused stand.

BUCH WIEN 2026: what to expect
BUCH WIEN 2026 runs from 25 to 29 November in Halls D and C at Messe Wien, with evening events at venues throughout Vienna. The fair opens with an evening session on Wednesday 25 November, from 4.30pm to 9.30pm, followed by full days from Thursday to Sunday. More than 500 events are planned, and Update Ukraine is one of the programme focuses.
Tickets are paid, with day passes and a five-day festival pass, and entry is free for children under 13.
For exhibitors, the opening evening is short, so stands need to be fully ready before it begins. The organiser's deadline for graphic files and stand furniture orders is 2 October 2026, and later orders may not be possible.
