About Surface Design Show
Surface Design Show describes itself as the UK's only show dedicated to surface material innovation for the architectural and design community. Organised by Montgomery Group, it takes place each February at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.
Exhibitors show interior and exterior surfaces: flooring, wall coverings, cladding, stone, tiles, glass and a wide range of innovative materials. Visitors are architects, interior designers and specifiers, many of whom are researching materials for live projects rather than browsing. That specification focus is what sets the show apart from general building or interiors events.
The content programme adds weight to a visit. CPD-accredited seminars, workshops, a RIBA conference partnership, an Innovation Gallery for emerging brands and the Surface Design Awards all run alongside the exhibition, and a Sustainability Trail highlights circular and low-impact products. The show takes part in the Better Stands initiative, which promotes more responsible exhibiting, and the organiser describes it as the most sustainable event in the Montgomery portfolio.
For manufacturers and suppliers, getting a product specified on a project can be worth far more than a single order, and the show gives concentrated access to the people who do the specifying. Texture, samples and clever display matter more than stand size: architects and designers want to touch finishes, see them at scale and take samples away. Technical data, fire ratings and sustainability credentials should be ready to hand, as specifiers will ask for them.

Surface Design Show 2027: what to expect
Surface Design Show 2027 runs from 2 to 4 February at the Business Design Centre in Islington, opening on the Tuesday from 16:00 to 21:00, then 10:00 to 20:00 on Wednesday and 10:00 to 17:00 on Thursday. Montgomery Group cites more than 6,200 visitors and over 150 exhibiting brands, with visitors from 51 countries and 84% holding purchasing authority.
The late Tuesday opening and Wednesday evening hours suit architects coming after work, so staff rotas need to cover long days. Given the show's involvement in Better Stands, reusable stand systems and low-waste materials fit the setting. The Business Design Centre is a historic building with its own access and loading constraints, so check delivery routes and weight limits early, and light glass, stone and reflective finishes carefully.
